Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee

14 Oct 2009 In: Definitions

Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is not only the best coffee in my opinion, but the tastiest.

It is grown in blue mountains of Jamaica, hence the name, between Kingston to the south and Port Maria to the north.  The blue mountains are some of the highest mountains in the caribbean rising up to 2,300 metres (7,500 ft).  Due to the combination of rich soil and the cool, misty climate, these mountains make it the ideal place for coffee to be grown.

This coffee is my favorite due to its mild and wonderful flavor.  You know how some coffee has a bitter after taste this one doesn’t. Especially when combined with condensed milk nothing is more sublime.

Aahhhhhhhhhhh (BIG SIGH)!

The perfect way to wake up in the morning if you ask me!

Let me first be clear…

Networks and televisions cannot reproduce…

(Just my way of trying to be funny… hehehe! hahaha!) 🙂

In case your scratching your head at the title let me explain it to you..

The Food Network will soon not only be the only one on television.  That’s right, Scripps Networks Interactive announced it plans to broadcast another culinary channel next year by replacing lifestyle channel Fine Living, or otherwise known as FLN. The new network, will be called the Cooking Channel, and will debut in the Fall of 2010.  It is also moving from good ol’ Tennessee to the Big Apple’s Chelsea Market.

The new Cooking Channel will be a 24-hour network that caters solely to avid food lovers by focusing on food information and instructional cooking. The channels content will focus more on baking, ethnic cuisine, wine and spirits, healthy and vegetarian cooking and kids’ foods.

According to John Lansing, executive vice president of Scripps Networks Interactive and president of the company’s Knoxville-based Scripps Networks operating division, “The idea is to raise your food IQ, making our viewers better cooks and a little smarter about food.”

What do you think about this new venture? Do you think it will be successful?

Amazing Weekend Due To Blogalicious 2009

12 Oct 2009 In: Thoughts

If any of you were  wondering what I was doing this past weekend, well let me just tell you all I attended the Blogalicious 2009 in Atlanta, GA.

First, before I dive into what an incredible, inspirational weekend I had let me give you a little background information on this wonderful perfectly planned event.  Blogalicious 2009 was created by none other than MamaLaw Media Group, which was founded by the creators of the lifestyle and parenting blog,MamaLaw.” Now these three women are not only beautiful on the outside but also in the inside, they are wives, mothers, entrepreneurs, and a force to reckon with.

I was extremely honored to be able to participate in an event that was dedicated to three fun-filled jam packed information filled weekend that was centered on women that were black, white, Latina, Caribbean, Asian-Pacific, and Native-American bloggers, and so many other nationalities, to get together and not only network and share their love for blogging but also  learn the tools needed to enhance their craft.

Besides listening to so many incredible speakers there are two that touched me to the core, Denene Millner with MyBrownBaby and Karen Walrond with Chookooloonks.  Now for any of you who have never read or heard of these two women not only are you living underneath a rock but you are deprived of their beauty they give to the literary word and the blogosphere as well.

Thank you to Denene and Karen, to all of the other talented speakers, and also to MamaLaw’s, Justice Fergie, Justice Ny, and Justice Jonesie.

It Was Simply Amazing!

Thank You! 🙂

So, end note… if you are an already blogger or even future blogger then I recommend that you mark your calendars for next years Blogalicious event because it will not only be held in my hometown, MIAMI, but if I know these three young women they will be coming strong!

Life After Gourmet for Ruth Reichl

8 Oct 2009 In: Food Buzz

Though we all already know about the sudden ending of the notorious Gourmet magazine, we are all wondering what is next for all of the fabulous writers, editors and tasters at the magazine, especially known other than Ruth Reichl.

Well, do not fret guys because Reichl will not only be continuing the book tour for the new cookbook “Gourmet Today,” before she commences on writing her own, and on Oct. 17, the public television show “Gourmet’s Adventures With Ruth” debuts.

Reichl states “It was exciting to be able to change the magazine into something that has a conscience and understood that eating is an ethical act,” she said. “When I got here the staff had a real appetite for doing that.”

Although sad and exhausted Reichl also states that “This magazine invented the epicurean category in the U.S.,” she said. “You read the magazine and you get a picture of America through its food. For almost 70 years it chronicled what America was like. My little piece of it was just at the end.”

Do You Cook With Your Kids?

8 Oct 2009 In: Thoughts

I think now a days it is very easy for parents to always feel as if their days are getting shorter and tasks are getting longer.  To feel as if rushing is the only option to get food on the table for the kids and family.

I know this because I used to be this!

I remember rushing home after work and picking my kids up from school and then feeling as if I had to rush through preparing dinner just so that the kids could eat well, finish homework, bathe and then go to bed.  Adding to that was knowing that it would all have to be done the following day.

I think at this time in my life I was forgetting that cooking for my family and especially with my children was one of my favorite times and that I was not taking the time to just STOP, BREATHE, and SHARE with them.

  • The quality time that is spent with your children while in the kitchen allows them to not only appreciate the delicious food that is being made by you but to also teach them to have a great attitude about food.  It allows them the chance to try new foods and see different ingredients combined.
  • Asking kids to share and help in preparing meals for the family gives them a sense of confidence and a new found ability that can possibly enhance and grow as they become older.  Especially if there is a chance of them turning them into little foodies!

7 Oct 2009 In: Food Buzz

Did you hear that Burger King is getting a new facelift… a massive new remodeling project is happening to increase sales for 12,000 locations worldwide. With sleek interiors that will include rotating red flame chandeliers, brilliant TV-screen menus and industrial-inspired corrugated metal and brick walls.

According to Chairman and CEO John Chidsey, who describes the overhaul as “contemporary, edgy, futuristic, just like an upscale restaurant.”

The overhaul will take several years to complete worldwide, and will cost franchisees a whopping $300,000 to $600,000 per restaurant.  The 60 outlets that have been revamped at the time have generated 12 to 15 percent more sales.
