Farewell Gourmet, Adieu!

5 Oct 2009 In: Food Buzz

We bid adieu to one of the most notorious food magazines in the world, Gourmet!

I am sure that you all have heard by now that Conde Nast announced that they will be closing the deliciously easy to read print, Gourmet magazine this year.  Due to budget cuts and severe decline in ad pages, Gourmet will be saying goodbye in their final issue this coming November.

This shock hits us all hard in the culinary world and especially for those who looked to Gourmet, for the past 68 years, as an embodiment of culinary masterpieces that included not only tell worthy recipes but beautiful pictures and innovative writing.  Especially to Ruth Reichl and her devoted and incredibly talented staff all of the best to come!

Your work and contribution to the culinary world will be remembered and never forgotten.

Farewell Gourmet and Adieu, You will be deeply missed!

I think that we are all creatures of habit, and the main thing that we all go by is “We eat with our eyes!”  I know that I am victim of this, in order for something to be consumed I know that it must have a nice looking presentation and be appealing to my eyes at first.

I think that people already have a partial perception of what colors affect their senses.  No matter what we as people first without even smelling our food, which is important on its own, but look to see how food is presented to us at first before even taking a bite, and with that then do we determine if it is worthy of even eating.

Have any of you had the chance to see the new film, “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs” yet?

If not I fully understand, I haven’t either due to my schedule being completely busy with caterings and events but that doesn’t mean we can’t still weep in the excitement of these cute little meatball cupcakes.

In honor of celebrating the premiere of the movie these cuties were prepared by Rose Petals Cakery of Naperville, Illinois, for a client who wanted to treat a group of kids to eat after seeing the movie.

The spaghetti is buttercream, the meatball is Ferrero Rocher candy, the sauce is raspberry jam mixed with buttercream and the parmesan is grated white chocolate.  I think that sounds Yummy!

We’ve already seen cupcake mini sliders, so why not cupcake meatballs…. I wonder what will be next? 🙂

Starbucks Debuts VIA Ready Brew

30 Sep 2009 In: Food Buzz

So yesterday was National Coffee Day, where everyone was told to fill their java mugs and celebrate in a day filled with coffee drinking. Now I know that for me Coffee day is everyday, hence me forgetting to take part in this celebration.

Oh Well!

For those that were living under the same rock as I was yesterday or who was just so completely buried in work you never realized what yesterday was…

Did you know that Starbucks has expanded their empire to instant coffee now?

Thats right, yesterday Starbucks debut their VIA, the Starbucks version of “Ready Brew” instant coffee.  This coffee is available in Colombian Roast or Bolder Italian Roast, and are priced at $2.95 for a packet of three.

“I think it takes great courage for us to take our brand name — which we value more than anything in the world — and put it on an instant coffee,” CEO Howard Schultz said at a Starbucks VIA Ready Brew launch event Tuesday. “That’s not a move of desperation, that’s a move of confidence and the fact that we know this coffee will pass the test of time.”

Produce Spotlight: Figs

29 Sep 2009 In: HOT Tips!

Summer is over, though I see some people trying to hold on for dear life….

Give it up its done for this year, but Autumn is here which just totally excites me… YAY!

But for those that are just holding on to summer a little longer a perfect fruit that can help you end summer is the Fig.

These rich tasting bursting with flavor sticky fruit was once looked upon as the forbidden fruit.  Not only was the fig tree a common theme in the Bible, figs were also considered to be sacred to the Egyptians.  They often buried the dead with baskets of figs alongside them.  In ancient Greece, it was written by Plato, himself, that athletes were fed figs to make them stronger.

Huh! I wonder if I can try that out with my son…… 😉

There are three common types of figs in the United States: Turkey, Mission, and Adriatic. Turkey figs tend to be larger in size, while the Mission figs are often the sweetest.
