Take a closer look inside First Lady Michelle Obama and White House Chef Sam Kass’s first garden at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden during World War II.  This new garden was planted in the Spring of 2009 with the help of local Bancroft Elementary School children and has yielded a constant supply fresh produce for the First Family and White House events.

The White House vegetable garden has already yielded hundreds of pounds of food.  It’s an amazing start with so much more potential!

In celebration of gay marriages in the state of Vermont, Ben & Jerry’s announced the changing of their iconic flavor Chubby Hubby to “Hubby Hubby.”

With the launch of ‘Hubby Hubby’, Ben & Jerry’s is partnering with Freedom to Marry to raise awareness about why marriage equality matters and encourage nationwide support for the freedom to marry.

While Ben & Jerry’s does not plan on changing the labels on “Chubby Hubby” pints sold in stores already, due to the length of  changing product labels takes 18 months, The creamery’s six in-state ice cream parlors will sell the limited-edition “Hubby Hubby” sundaes during the month of September.

What do you think of this bold move of Ben & Jerry’s?  Do you feel motivated to go and buy some “Hubby Hubby” ice cream in advancing awareness of same sex marriages?

So do you all rememeber when we met Little Gordon, a pint-size Bitish version of Chef Gordon Ramsay look alike.

Well he’s BACK!!!!

This time he is tormenting cafeteria lunch ladies, especially poor Margaret, and bleeping hydrogenated school cafeteria lunches.

I don’t know about any of you but I would be terrified to have him as a critique!

(please beware of foul language altough it is beeped out)

How To: Remove Garlic Smell Off Hands

31 Aug 2009 In: How To

Ever have the smell of garlic lingering on your hands hours after you season and cook your dish of choice?

No matter how much I love the taste of garlic in my food, I absolutely hate the lingering potent smell it gives off on my hands and I don’t know about you but smelling like a garlic garden isn’t very attractive, if you get what I’m saying.

To remove the garlic smell from your hands, simply rub your hands with a stainless steel spoon or other stainless steel utensil.  If you don’t have any stainless steel utensils you can always just rub a little salt or baking soda on them and wash again with soap and water.

Now you should be smelling like your rosy self again!!!! For me it would be more of a lavender pomegranate! 🙂

What is Polenta?

31 Aug 2009 In: Questions

Polenta is a traditional staple food found in Northern Italy, and is made from semolina wheat.  It is made with either coarsely or finely ground yellow or white cornmeal.  Back in the day it was characterized as gruel or porridge.  When boiled polenta takes on a creamy and smooth texture due to the gelatinization of starch in the grain.

Polenta is often cooked in a huge copper pot, known as the paiolo in Italian.  Although polenta can be served with practically anything it is a great side dish with Oxtail, Ribs, or even Osso Bucco.  It can also be served in cake form can be layered with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and baked.
