Fizzy Carbonated Milk from Coca-Cola

28 Jul 2009 In: Food Buzz

Got MILK?

Or maybe Fizzy Carbonated Milk, the new addition to the Global Coca-Cola brand. Skimmed milk mixed with sparking water, flavoured with fruit and sweetened with cane sugar.

Coca-Cola is currently test marketing Vio, the flavored, carbonated “vibrancy” milk beverage, in three US cities.  It comes in four “natural” flavors:  peach mango, berry, citrus and tropical colada; with the possibility of being marketed as a healthy nutritional drink.

One of Coke’s copywriters claims it tastes “like a birthday party for a polar bear”.

What do you think of this new drink?  Will you try some?

27 Jul 2009 In: Kitchen 411

Let’s first start of that salt is a mineral. In chemical terms, it is known as sodium chloride (NaCl), the combination of one sodium ion and one chloride ion. Salt is 40% sodium and 60% chloride by weight.  Salt enhances the flavor of food, preserves food, helps to regulate and control normal body functions, and acts as a building block for more complex chemicals.

Here are a few easy to find types of salt with different ways to use them.

For those of us who are well aware of all the food networking sites out there that fellow foodies have the ability to join and share their recipes and pics, here is another one…. Tasty Kitchen.   It was created by none other than Ree of Pioneer Woman.  She is fantastic ya’ll a real wonder woman.

If you guys haven’t had a chance to check out her site then your really missing out.  Actually let’s do this…. STOP what your doing, and go visit her.  You won’t be disappointed!

This lovely site went live about a week ago and is vastly gathering all different followers and recipes for its archives.  I have actually already joined. 🙂

Tasty Kitchen has a very welcoming homey feel to it, and the best part is so easy to search and peruse recipes.  So don’t feel pressured to become a member you still have the ability to look around anyways.  A great addition is the fact that Ree has invited some other great food bloggers such as: Bakarella, Jaden from Steamy Kitchen, and Joy the Baker, that are chipping in and adding to the great following.

What’s Cookin in “The Kitchn”

24 Jul 2009 In: Food Buzz

Each week we round up our most yummy posts and recipes from our friends at the Kitchn.

This week, the kitchn shares with us how to make scrumptious homemade pita bread.

Also in the Kitchn, a beer guide, pickled carrots, foods you bring back home, and yellow tomatoes.

Is it ok to answer your cell phone during dinner?

I ask this question because there have been so many times when I would be eating with my father or even some friends and y phone would ring and I would always wonder “should I answer it or let it go to voicemail?”

Unless I know it is a dire emergency and am expecting important news then I will answer the call.  But if it is just a regular phone call then I usually leave it alone.

I remember a few years ago, at the dinner table with my family and my sister had received a phone call from one of her friends and she had answered it.  Well that did not sit well with my dad, he just looked at her and said “Is it really necessary to answer the phone while we are eating!”  Let’s just say she got off of the phone very quickly. 🙂

Many believe that although it’s rude to actually answer the phone, it’s fine to check and see who is calling.  Some may feel a discreet glance to their phone as they see it is ringing may be appropriate.  Try putting your phone away for the dinner and not placing it on the table in hindsight.  You can always check your messages when your companion goes to the restroom.

So tell me, is it??? How do you feel on this topic….

Seafood Lasagna Galore

23 Jul 2009 In: Recipes

Seafood Lasagna

Lasagna is one of the most flexible Italian dishes.  Whether you add savory ground beef, all types of vegetables, or even like this delicious one I made with king crab, shrimp, scallops, and lobster.

Try to stop drooling, I’m only at the beginning…

When I was looking for a lasagna recipe to make I knew I wanted something different and creative.  When I came across this one on Confections of a Foodie Bride I just knew I had to make it, slightly modified,… and that’s what I did!

Although this recipe took a little while to prepare it was so worth it in the end.

Enjoy!
