Decode Your Dinner Guests

22 Jul 2009 In: How To

Do you always wonder what your guests think of your food, or the special meal you just  prepared?

Or have you ever wondered if that meatloaf you prepared was delicious or that long  thanksgiving dinner you slaved over all day is up to par, look for these gestures.

Discover what they really think of your coking!

Closed Eyes

When food tastes really good, some people shut their eyes to block out their other senses and enjoy and savor what they are eating.

This is a Great sign that you made a delicious dish!

Stomach Touching

When this occurs, it is often assumed that the person is full. Touching the stomach after eating is a sign of satisfaction.

They are trying to hold onto the pleasant feeling, says body language expert Patty Wood.

Scrunched Nose and Lips

This will signify an unhappy eater.  These people will turn up their noses and lips when they feel the food is unenjoyable.

This will happen for only an instant so make sure to watch the one person you are trying to satisfy and impress closely.

Turning Away

You will always know when someone who is enjoying their food will be completely engrossed in it and surround their plate, however, for those who are not will often lean away pulling back their chests or leaning against the chair.  As if they are trying to get away from their pate of food.

Wienermobile Crashes into Wisconsin Home

21 Jul 2009 In: Food Buzz

What would you do if you were sitting on your couch eating popcorn snuggled up watching teleision, when all of a sudden a huge moving weiner comes plowing into your house through the wall?

That’s what happened last friday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when the giant Oscar Mayer Wienermobile’s driver stepped on the gas accidentally instead of the brake, when turning into the driveway.

Thank goodness nobody was hurt, but the house and vehicle suffered moderate damage.

When Should You Tip More Than 20 Percent?

20 Jul 2009 In: Thoughts

Most of the time, you need not tip more than 20 percent, but here are some occasions when you should be more generous:

1. Exceptional service where you wouldn’t expect it. If the waiter arranges a special pasta dish for you, sings happy birthday to your daughter, or replenishes that drink you just finished off without asking. But only if the service goes way beyond what you’d expect for the type of restaurant it is.

2. Freebies. If the server brings out complimentary chocolate cake, then you should tip on the estimated cost of the comped items. These might include waived corkage, which will ultimately mean larger tip.

3. Getting treated like a regular. Being treated as family at a restaurant you visit on a regular basis always calls for a larger tip.  When someone calls you “my darling,” gives you a sense of loving nature and part of a family.

4. A small check. Sometimes the check is so low that 20 percent seems absurd. If that ends up being the case, just leave a couple of dollars or so.

5. A “camping” aka “lingering” tip. If you linger (known as “camping” in restaurant lingo), you should definitely compensate the server for the lost business. Even if the place is empty, you should augment your tip a bit, because the waiter may have offered you more service such as re-filling your water glass or asking if you want anything else.

6. A pity tip. If the server looks like a lost malnourished college student who is living on ramen noodles, or a stressed out staff member running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

Burger King has confirmed that they will mail out $1 double cheeseburger coupons in August and September to nearly 80 million households nationwide. The decision was decided on after franchisees vetoed a proposal to offer the double cheeseburger at that price on in-store menus.

The franchise owners rejected the original promotion to sell the double cheeseburger at $1 for four months; and also later rejected a revised promotion plan to sell the $1 doubles for six weeks.
The rejection was due to franchise owners concerned about another dollar priced sandwich would hurt the company’s margin, especially since they already feature the Whopper Jr. sandwich for a $1.

Burger King will now offer $1 double cheeseburgers but only through mailed-out coupons. The direct mail coupon book will also include $50 in other coupons.

What do you think of Burger Kings new proposal?

Food, is a fundamental and intimate part of everyone’s life.

For the past three months, Michelle Obama, along with policy director Jocelyn Frye and and Sam Kass, an assistant chef, along with many others have been an advocate on making the public know the importance of a healthful diet.

The success of the White House garden has become an unqualified success.  To create that down-to-earth feeling, Obama has invited local schoolchildren, to the garden to teach them how eating healthy is fundamental.  Produce from the garden is donated to Miriam’s Kitchen, which serves healthful meals to the homeless in Washington.

“The garden showed the step-by-step process of how food gets to the table, but the major event culminated in cooking and eating,” Kass said. “We’re really trying to highlight that it all leads to the table.”

Obama is trying to highlight the issues that most directly affect children: “We’re focusing on kids, even though food and health are issues we all face,” Kass said. “We want to look at the process from how and what is grown to how it gets to our plates without going in a million directions.”

Though Michelle will be taking the month of August off, she will relaunch her quest in September, just in time for the back-to-school rush, and push the debate over funding for child nutrition programs including school breakfast and lunch.
