 Since the beginning of April, SunChips® teamed up with National Geographic for the Green Effect™ initiative.  

 A few years ago, SunChips® started using solar power to help make their wonderful delicious snacks in  Modesto, California, one of seven plants located across the U.S., to help rebuild the Town of Greensburg  which was destroyed by a tornado.   Their plan is to begin using fully compostable packaging by 2010.

SunChips® wants to hear from you, the consumers, how you would make your community greener, and how you would like to inspire others.  Submit a description of your Green Effect idea by June 8, 2009. Ten finalists will be announced July 7, 2009.

It’s Cinco de Mayo (which commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.  In the region of Puebla and in many parts of the U.S., Cinco de Mayo is a day of celebration filled with traditional food, drink, and music. ) guys, and I am wondering what you all have planned for this day?

I know that the majority of us will be dining Mexican cuisine and sipping on margaritas, but do any of you have a favorite Mexican restaurant you will be eating at?

At the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City, the James Beard Foundation presented its 2009 awards for journalism and media, yersterday evening.

Those who were last nights winners were among some of the best in the food and beverage industry.  The first-ever award for best food blog went to Sunset magazine’s One-Block Diet.  The Washington Post won for best newspaper food section; New York magazine’s Adam Platt took the prize for restaurant criticism; Epicurious.com won for best food website; the MFK Fisher Distinguished Writing Award went to Aleksandra Crapanzano for her article “Benedictions” in Gourmet; and Lidia Bastianich’s “Lidia’s Italy: Sweet Napoli” won for best television food show.

Seafood Chowder

Have you ever just wanted to re-create a recipe of a dish you had at a restaurant.  The other night I ate at Bahama Breeze Restaurant and tasted a friend of mines Seafood Chowder, that she ordered.  It was full of flavor and full of seafood.

It was quite delicious!  I started thinking to myself hmmmmmm….“I wonder if I could re-create this yummy chowder?”

I started dissecting the chowder right there at the dinner table… my friends started laughing at me.

That’s when I decided I was going to make a go at Seafood Chowder, it would have shrimp, scallops, and a whole bunch of other yummy stuff…. It was delicious by the way!
