I always wondered how to make Pico de gallo. One of my favorite foods is Mexican and everytime I eat there I always ask for extra Pico de gallo. So, I decided to make some homemade Pico de gallo.
This recipe is soooooo yummy I had to eat it ontop of my chicken, corn and black bean nachos.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 🙂
The ingredients needed are: Five plum (Roma) tomatoes (firm, not soft), 1/2 large or 1 small red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt, and jalapeno peppers (depending on if u like it spicy). These quantities are not approximate; just an estimate depending on size of vegetables are found.
First wash and chop up the tomatoes in halves, then lengthwise in thin wedges.
Then dice all of the cut-up tomatoes in small pieces. Dump the tomatoes into a medium sized bowl. (Remember, if you want to include jalapeno peppers make sure to dice them and add with the tomatoes)
After, dice the 1/2 of the red onion into small pieces as well. (Please beware, crying might be involved 🙁 ) Throw the diced onions into the same bowl as the tomatoes. Mix well.
Chop up a good amount of fresh cilantro. Make sure that they are cut without the stems and fine. Throw the finely chopped cilantro in the bowl. Mix well.
Squeeze half of a small lime into the bowl. This infuses all of the flavors.
And last, add salt to taste. A couple of shakes should be fine. You may need more, but that is entirely up to you.
Stir together.
Enjoy!
